Like all businesses, at Kinetics we keep an eye on our costs and are always looking for ways to save.  We learnt a very long time ago that the cheapest price isn't always the least expensive or best value - in fact often quite the opposite.

When it came to reviewing our phone account, we talked to our friends at Teleconsultants.  And, like a number of our clients who have already enjoyed their help, we too found savings.  As a result, we'll be trimming our phone costs by 8%, which is most welcome when so many other costs keep climbing relentlessly.

How does it work?

Teleconsultants asked us to send them the last three month's phone accounts. I'd hate to see what these look like for a large business.  The phone account for just our little business seems to be measured in kilograms, and putting it altogether gives a perspective of the enormity of the task.  Nonetheless, not long after we'd sent these off, Chris from Teleconsultants was back to us with the answers.

He started by telling us that things weren't too untidy.  That's mixed news - 50% of you wants to hear there is a huge saving you'll be able to enjoy in the future, but the other 50%  is relieved to know that we havent been wasting huge expenditure month after month.  Nevertheless, Teleconsultants found about 10% worth of savings for us.  We were surprised to find that we had phone lines we didn't know about, and blocks of numbers we didn't recognise.  Looking over the phone bills, it's clear that unless you know what to look for, you'd miss these even if you read your phone bill line by line.  And then of course, Teleconsultants could give us advice on the competitiveness of our toll rates.  They weren't bad, but neither were they what we should have been enjoying.  And that's a conversation we'll be having with our Telco.  For those of us that don't do this all the time, we have no way of knowing what current market rates are.
