Statistics released today from Hitwise (click here) show that Facebook has overtaken Google as the number one most visited site in the US, a trend that we'll see reflected here in due course.

While Microsoft and Google have been fighting over search engine marketshare, Facebook has snuck in from the side and won the race.  Is search over?  Do we get information in different way?  Obviously not, but certainly in the race for ad-revenue, driven by web clicks, maybe the battleground has shifted.  I recall past rumours of hookups between Microsoft and MySpace or LinkedIn - maybe thats where the action was all along.

So, while Google and Microsoft continue to fight about search, online applications, online storage,mobile and OS/browers, and while the old enemy, Apple sticks to it's knitting making really cool hardware, new markets open.  New opportnities arise, and the empire builders fight over yesterday's territory. 

The thing about any modern business, and especially in the IT industry, is that the rules keep changing.  Surely its better to invent new ones that fight old ones.  (putting this into action at Kinetics - our new coaching service is proving to be a real success)
