We're hearing that April 28th will see the release of SP2 for Office 2007. And, more importantly, the next version of Office (Office 14 or Office 2010?) will be available sometime in the first half of 2010.
So ... what's new in Office 2007 Service Pack 2? Quite a lot of small enhancements:
- If you care about Open Document standards, (odt, ods, odp) then you willl be able to open, change and save these files.
- We're told that that the graphics performance will be improved, including the time it takes to present graphics intensive pages, and the appearance of SmartART objects
- But most importantly we think, the 'save as' PDF feature will now be included. Up until now, this has been free download add-on. But now it'll be native. I use this feature all the time. From Word or Excel, I regularly choose to 'Send - Email as PDF Attachment' so that I know the recipient will be able to see my document as I intended, but not easily change it.
