RSS Feeds on Mobile

I was watching a friend of mine grabbing the latest blog feeds on their iPhone when it struck me.  RSS viewers aren't bundled with Windows Mobile.  Which make it quite hard to track your favourite sites and keep up with the latest news while travelling.

So Kinetics CEO Andrew Hunt went looking for one.  And found Viigo.  First looks are encouraging.  Firstly, its simple to install.    You have to create a Viigo account - it must fetch your feeds for you and package them up, but that's no real issue.  It'll mean that if you change mobile devices, your preferences will follow you, so that's quite a good help.  Once Viigo is loaded up, there are a bunch of preconfigured sites, sorted by a variety of categories, and while many were US based, there were some good general feeds.  After about 10 minutes I'd removed the ones I didn't want, and added the ones that I wanted, including Kinetics News and Kinetics Coaching, and some local news sites.  The only slight problem is that you can't cut/paste URLs - so you have to carefully key in the complex ones.

Once you have your feeds setup and sorted, it is easy enough to navigate and track new items.  Managing old posts and deleting them is straight forward, and there are some links to manage articles, including tweeting them.

So what is RSS?  We posted on this recently, check it out here.  And now, you can pick up your news and favourite site updates quickly and easily while you're on the run.
