Stop SPAM

We picked up a useful article in ‘stuff’ this week. (click here) It seems that the anti-SPAM laws are now going to be more vigorously enforced.   Despite the law change back in 2007, there has still been a small number of persistent rogues.

We understand that electronic newsletters must be opt-in – the people you send them to must agree.  At Kinetics, we ask people when we talk to them for the first time, and we have a ‘subscribe’ feature.  Likewise, newsletters must include an ‘opt-out’ unsubscribe feature.  When someone unsubscribes, you must respect that.

We’re also seeing SPAM increasingly move to other forms of communication.  There are many examples of unwanted SMS text messages starting to emerge.  Of late, we’ve also noted an upswing in social media tools, particularly Twitter.  It’s increasingly common to see a Twitter account has been suspended for ‘suspicious’ behaviour.  SPAM is simply an electronic version of the endless faxes, the junk mail in the post or even the unwanted posters stuck on walls around town.

It seems that the DIA is taking a pretty reasonable approach, with warnings and advice.  But it also looks like their patience is running thin, and persistent offenders are about to get hit in the wallet.  And that’s a very good thing.

Remember, the law only effects NZ spammers.  If you are still being driven mad by offers of body enhancements, cheap drugs and so forth, we can help!  We’ve partnered with SMX to provide the best possible antiSPAM.  Give us a call today to free your inbox from the scourge!
