We got an email today from "Trademe" telling me my membership was not enabled. It asked me to click the attachment which took me to the tradme login page. It looked just like trademe and all the links take you to the respective trademe links. On closer examination however I saw the address in the address bar was definitely not trademe. I also went back to the original email and noticed the address was not quite right – traderne rather than trademe. This has to be one of the best phishing efforts I have seen in a long time.
Feedback we have got from Trademe is – “We’ve seen a fake email circulating recently that links to a page which mimics the Trade Me website. It asks you to enter your Trade Me login details and credit card information. We’d never prompt you to enter your credit card details in this way so if you have entered your credit card information, please contact your bank immediately”
Funnily enough the advice Trademe give you is the same advice we give all our clients – Keep you PC up to date! For our Kare clients this in included as part of your contract on covered devices. If you are not sure whether your device is covered please contact your account manager.
