Kinetics is currently rolling out and testing Service Pack 2 across its Servers and Workstations. We expect testing to be completed by 19th June. To date we have found no issues with Service Pack 2. Our internal feedback suggests that clients should see improved network speeds and better logging that will reduce troubleshooting times.
One thing to be aware of is that it does take a long time to install. The install warns of multiple reboots and that the process may take over an hour. However our experience is that a single reboot and around 30 minutes is the average timeframe on reasonable hardware. Much of the configuration does take place on the restart, so be prepared to wait once the restart takes place.
Because of the possibility of multiple restarts and the time factor, it’s recommended that the Service Pack is manually installed. Kinetics does recommend applying Service Packs. Once a Service Pack is in common use, Microsoft tend to stop releasing security patch’s for previous versions. So it is important that your Workstations and Servers are at the current release level.
For those clients on our old KARE Gold+ contracts, or KARE 'Core Fundamentals', 'Proactive Peace of Mind' or 'Total KARE' contracts, applying service packs is included in your contract for no extra cost for the contracted machines.
Your Kinetics Engineer, Account Manager or our Coordinators will be able to help arrange to bring your network up to date.
