​Ross Roof is an innovative and dynamic manufacturer and supplier of stone-coated steel roofing tiles. Established in 1989, Ross Roof has spent the last quarter-century supplying architects, construction firms and homeowners with superior tiles which is both pleasing to the eye and designed to withstand the elements.

The Directors decided on a strategy of International expansion.

With the intention of significant export growth to support this strategy a multimillion upgrade of their manufacturing plant and investing in a number of Sales staff located all around the world was undertaken.

Ross Roof's Challenge

​To help deliver Ross Roof’s export expansion plans they approached their IT partner, Kinetics, to develop an IT roadmap that would allow Ross Roof to quickly roll-out multiple offices to the four corners of the world. This included delivering information to any device, anywhere, anytime.  Data anywhere was the key to the strategy as Ross Roof planned to evolve very quickly from a NZ orientated business to an export focused business with offices around the globe. Any new IT infrastructure would also need to assist when purchasing similar roofing organisations in other countries, making it quicker to integrate them onto the Ross Roof business.

The existing infrastructure was unable to meet the needs of an international sales force who needed to collaborate from any city in the world or time zone. They needed access to product information and manufacturing data to meet their customer needs. The Sales Manager needed to be able to have the sales team join and collaborate in the weekly team sales meeting, to share information and develop a shared company culture.

Their previous Infrastructure was unable to meet their needs. It was unreliable and had very limited collaboration capability.

The solution

To achieve Ross Roof’s globalisation strategy Kinetics recommended a significant portfolio of Microsoft solutions. This IT strategy evolved out of Kinetics unique Technology Consulting methology and quarterly planning sessions. These enabled the Kinetics team to gain an in-depth understanding of Ross Roof’s unique business requirements. By applying our Best Practice methodology we were able to develop the right IT roadmap for their business.

A key part of this roadmap was an evolution from an on premise IT Capex model, which limits flexibility, to a flexible and scalable hybrid solution. By migrating to Microsoft cloud solutions Ross Roof can scale very quickly, allowing costs to match growth. This lead to Kinetics refreshing their server and implementing Microsoft Office 365 for all staff from the factory to the international sales representatives and remote-working directors.



Over the past three years Ross Roof’s sales increased by 400 per cent with revenue now more than $40 million per annum.

Staff in multiple offices around the world including Poland, Dubai, USA and Japan can now work nimbly in a competitive international market across multiple time zones. Kinetics’ SharePoint Igniter solution allowed Ross Roof staff to collaborate on stock levels, source up to date price lists and much more. Skype for Business assisted with instant messaging of foreign exchange updates. To reduce administration costs Kinetics incorporated a number of workflows to automate processes, reduce errors and save costs. These included leave processing, staff scheduling and IT help desk support.

With their Takanini factory expanding from 1500 to 8000 square meters and the purchase of adjoining property for future expansion, the impact on Ross Roof’s IT systems is minimal, as they can quickly and easily scale with requirements.

“Our traditional on premise systems would never have allowed us to achieve our export goals. Our new global sales team now has immediate access to documents anytime, anywhere. Office 365 has been the springboard to enable our growth plans” said George Khoury, CFO.
